Cape Coral Attractions

Cape Coral Attractions - you will find fun for the whole family with parks, museums, art and music, movies, shows, sports, and more.

With so many things to do in Cape Coral, I don't know where to start!

There's never a reason to be bored.

Besides boating, golfing, fishing, and great beaches, the Cape has lots of parks, monthly festivals, holiday happenings, and special events.

There are also many choices for cultural opportunities such as theater, shows, live music, and art.  Things really pick up during season, which goes from October - April, and especially between January - March. I will start with some of Cape Coral's fabulous 39 parks!

Cape Coral Parks

  • Sunsplash, the number one Cape Coral attraction for kids, is a water park, it's at Lake Kennedy on Santa Barbara Blvd.  Sunsplash is 14 acres of slides, pools, food, and fun!   The park is open from March - September, weekends and everyday through the summer, hours are 10-5, and till 8:30 on Family Fun Nights.
  • The BMX Park is run by volunteers and provides a safe environment for bicycle motocross racing. Instructional clinics are available. The Park is located at 1410 SW 6th Place.
  • Eagle Skate Park has ramps and boxes for skateboarders. Hours are Monday - Thursday 3-9, Fri 12-10, and Sun 12-7. Bicyclists may also use the facilities, Wed 6-9, Sun 5-7. The park is at 315 SW 2nd Ave.
  • Rotary Park has nature trails, an observation tower, playground, butterfly house, environmental center, and dog park. We love to go to Rotary Park, walk on the path and take photographs. The park is at El Dorado and Pelican.
  • Four Freedoms Park has a beach, playground, picnic shelters, and a recreation facility on Bimini Basin off of Cape Coral Parkway. It is the location of several festivals and family movie nights.
  • Cape Coral Eco Park is located right next to the Midpoint Bridge. Have you ever been in a mangrove forest?! Very cool..... It looks like a regular forest at the top, but totally different at the bottom. Much of the mangrove roots are above ground, and look like fingers, or witches brooms. Pathways take you to the Caloosahatchee River. Canoe and kayak rentals are available Oct - May.

Find out more about other Cape Coral Parks by going to the Cape Coral Parks & Rec website.

Cape Coral Attractions - Museums and Art

The Cape Coral Historical Museum has photographs, information, relics, antiques, shells, and fossils.

What I really enjoyed are the replicas of the famous Rose Gardens and a Florida Cracker House.

The Naples Museum of Art has a wonderful collection of art in the various media.

They have a special collection of Dale Chihuly glasswork, an artist that I love and who I had as a teacher when I went to art school at RISD.

The Cape Coral Arts Studio and the Cape Coral Art League have juried art shows, exhibits, and all types of art classes for kids and adults.

In nearby Fort Myers, the Sidney and Berne Davis Art Center features art, music, and other cultural and educational events and classes.

Cape Coral Attractions - Entertainment

Cultural Park Theatre is the longest-running community theater in Southwest Florida.

They offer plays and musicals, acting classes, and they also have two choruses and an art gallery.

In Ft Myers, the Barbara B Mann Performing Arts Hall has national acts: plays, comedians, music, and other entertainment.

We've seen the comedian Brian Regan, and a Cirque du Soleil-style show there.

Then there's the Ft Myers Murder Mystery Dinner Train which is so much fun!  You watch a murder mystery while enjoying a delicious 5-course meal.   The train operates Wednesday - Sunday.

You've also got to go to Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre in Ft Myers.  A buffet-style dinner is served before the show and off-Broadway and children's theater are also available.

We went to a show at Christmas time and that really got us in the holiday spirit!

Cape Coral Attractions - Holidays

Cape Coral holiday and Christmas festivities include the Tree Lighting Ceremony and Boat Parade in Cape Coral, Holiday Nights at the Edison Ford Winter Estates in Ft Myers, and the Holiday Village on Captiva Island.

We think the best house to see Christmas decorations in Cape Coral is on SW  4th Ave, between SW 8th Str and SW 11th Str.  To get there, go on Nicholas Pkwy between Santa Barbara and Pine Island Rd.  You'll see signs that will direct you to a fantastic light show set to music that will delight everyone!

My favorite places to go for New Years in Cape Coral are Cape Harbour and Marina Village.  Good food, live music, dancing, and fireworks are all part of the festivities.

Cape Coral Attractions - Music

For live music, a really good place to go to is The Nauti Mermaid at Marina Village, or Bert's Bar over in Matlacha, the bar and restaurant is right on the water.

My favorite band is Deb and the Dynamics on Thursday nights.

Or, another good place is outside at Fathoms over near Longboards Bar at Cape Harbour. They have live music on Tuesday nights at the tiki hut.

Cape Harbour and Marina Village are really nice places to go shop and stroll around while enjoying the waterfront.

A fun thing to do is to go country line dancing at the Dixie Roadhouse, it's one of the few times you'll have to wear boots in Cape Coral, and it's a lot of fun!

Many restaurants have live music, especially outside because the weather is so nice year round.

Then, you've got to go to the Backyard Bluesfests held at the Buckingham Blues Bar each month during season, that are a lot of fun to go to for their live music from local and national bands!

Cape Coral Florida Attractions - Sports

New to Cape Coral is their very own soccer team, the Cape Coral Hurricanes. They have just joined the premier adult soccer league in the country and their regular season runs from May - August, with pre-season games starting in March.

Home games are played at Cape Coral High School and tryouts are in Cape Coral and Ft Myers. I'm looking forward to going to a game next season!

You can help the team and get involved by becoming a fan, by volunteering or becoming a sponsor, and even a partial team owner.

This year was a success, and 2013 looks to be another great year for the Hurricanes!

Ft. Myers has two major league teams for spring training baseball, the Minnesota Twins and the Boston Red Sox.

We also have our local team, Ft Myers Miracle Baseball, and an ice hockey team, The Florida Everblades, that plays at Germain Arena down in Estero.

For football, you can catch the Dolphins Express to regular season Miami Dolphins home games from Sam Galloway ford in Ft Myers.

Cape Coral has two bowling alleys, Coral Lanes on Mid Cape Terrace and HeadPinz on Del Prado Blvd.

naples zoo

Nearby is the really nice Naples Zoo ......... with lions, alligators, bears, and many more wild animals.

You can take a boat ride around several monkey islands, watch an exhibition in the arena, or go on a camel ride.

Another neat place to go to is the Butterfly Estates, a butterfly museum in Ft Myers and it is just awesome! We took some beautiful photos.

The butterflies flit around amongst waterfalls and flower gardens. There is a cafe, a gift shop, and you can get ice cream too.

Speaking of beautiful gardens, it's worthwhile to drive down to the Naples Botanical Gardens. I love it there! You will enjoy strolling through Brazilian, Asian, Florida, Caribbean, and children's gardens ............ plan to have lunch!

Do some Star Gazing at the FSW Observatory in Punta Gorda.   Or, if you're taking a day trip to the Tampa area, check the Florida Aquarium.
