The Naples Museum of Art brings culture and beauty to art lovers in Southwest Florida.
Now called the Baker Museum, it's next door to the Naples Philharmonic, both are on the campus of the Artis-Naples Philharmonic Center of the Arts ........ for art, music, dance, and theater.
In the museum, you'll find paintings, sculpture, drawings, and photography plus educational opportunities with classes and lectures. The 3-story building houses 15 galleries, a glass-domed conservatory, Museum Store, cafe, and resource room. At the museum's entrance, work by world-famous artists are featured. The gates were made by Albert Paley, and the chandelier by Dale Chihuly.
I actually had Dale Chihuly as a teacher when I attended college at the Rhode Island School of Design, and was so thrilled to see his work featured at the museum!
Chihuly's Red Chandelier hangs in the glass conservatory for part of the year, his Icicle Chandelier hangs in the lobby, and his Persian Ceiling is on the 3rd floor ...... all 3 are part of the museum's permanent collection.
It's so cool to walk under Chihuly's Persian Ceiling, the vibrant colors reflect on the wall and floor, and you feel like you're in a different world!
Another sculpture to look for is the 9 arches of Gateway to the Arts, a stainless steel structure by Yakov Agam.
Also part of their permanent collection are the Walking Sticks of Ruth Gordon, it is considered one of the finest exhibits of walking sticks in the world.
Walk through the Mouse House, the interesting collection of art by Olga Hirschhorn.
You'll want to return to the museum again and again to see changing exhibitions of paintings, photography, print-making, and sculpture.
Buy jewelry, stationary, books, music, and kid's and logo items as gifts and mementos at their Museum Store.
The Museum Cafe serves lunch Tuesday - Sunday from 11AM-2PM, and cocktails and lighter fare for an hour before evening shows and during intermission for the Philharmonic.
Next door, the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra features pops, classical, and chamber concerts and has accompanied famed artists such as Luciano Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli, Kiri Te Kanawa, Kathleen Battle, and so many more.
