Cape Coral's Jazz and Blues Festival has everything you'd want for a fantastic evening - great music, food, and a beautiful waterfront venue!
Put on by Cape Coral Parks and Rec, the festival is will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022. If I were to pick the most delightful of the Cape Coral festivals, I would pick this one.
It used to be at Jaycee Park, but a few years ago it was moved to the Cape's luxury resort, The Westin at Marina Village.
And what a fantastic spot it is because the festival is surrounded by water ........ the Caloosahatchee River is on one side, and Tarpon Point Marina is on the other.
Gates open at 3PM and parking is free. Bring your lawn chairs or a blanket. At about 4:30, the first of 4 jazz or blues bands start performing.
The video below shows a clip of The New York Front performing, and a view of the festival:
Food and beverages are available from vendors since no coolers are allowed, and there are several tents set up off to the side.
Save money by buying tickets in advance. And, for just a little bit more money ........ and it's well worth it, you can buy VIP tickets.
The tickets include a lovely buffet dinner. We had a choice of fish or chicken with bread, salad, veggies, and about a dozen different cookie bars for dessert.
It was soooooooo delicious! The VIP section has seats near the stage and by the water, and very importantly, we had access to shade and breezes.
There were several boats anchored out in the river ......... it would be so much fun to listen to the music from a boat!
The final opening act was our popular local band, Deb and the Dynamics .......... I really enjoy their bluesy rock.
By then the sun had set and it really cooled off comfortably.
Each year, the headlining act is someone quite well-known, and I've been fortunate to see my favorite Jazz artist, saxophone player Boney James.
For 2012, we had the pleasure of having Steve Oliver, a guitarist and singer with a distinctive world sound, as the headliner.
This video shows him performing his song,"Fiesta":
It was such a pleasant evening under the stars, and we couldn't help ourselves, we had to get up and dance.
I didn't want the night to end, but as the last encore played, we danced our way down the boardwalk of the marina with lights shimmering and reflecting in the water, looking forward to next year's jazz and blues festival.
If you are here in March and you are looking for different Cape Coral events, come to the Sounds of Jazz and Blues Festival!
