Sandy Hook Restaurant, now called The Yucatan, offers great waterfront dining in Matlacha where you can watch mullet jump while enjoying delicious food!
Actually located on Little Pine Island, all you have to do is cross over the bridge from Cape Coral and then from Matlacha.
Yucatan mainly serves seafood but also has dishes like prime rib, steaks, ribs, chicken, pasta, and burgers.
It's a favorite of local author Randy Wayne Wright, famous for his Doc Ford crime books.
And I can see why ........ the food is very good, the ambiance at the fish house is casual and comfortable, and windows all around the dining room open up to waterviews and wildlife. The place is usually packed, but it's definitely worth the wait.
House specialties include Cracked Conch, Tuna Nachos, grouper, and Pasta Alfredo.
I had a hard time deciding between crab cakes and Florida lobster and then I decided to get the Key Lime Mahi Mahi.
It was so good, and was which was topped with tomatoes, parmesan cheese, scallions, and a key lime butter sauce.
I also love their Trigger Fish with Red Pepper Sauce. They serve fish either blackened, broiled, pecan-crusted, bronzed, sauteed, or dipped in Ritz Crackers.

The restaurant has a nice ambience, it's decorated like a ship and has lots of windows all the way around the dining area.
If you can, try to get a table by the windows, because you may be able to see dolphins, manatees, and different shore birds.
It's also so much fun to watch mullet jumping in the water right behind the restaurant.

The staff is friendly and attentive, they sing a rousing happy birthday to patrons who are lucky to be celebrating their special day at the restaurant.
You've got to try their Mango Guava Mousse Cheesecake!
