Slates - Come to this Cape Coral restaurant for upscale cajun dining, cozy ambience, and excellent service!
I have a new favorite restaurant in the Cape!
And, it's located in the downtown part of Cape Coral Pkwy, on Candia and Lafayette streets next to the Italian market and restaurant, Paesano's.
Owners Allan and Nancy Cotter are known for their previous and famous Blue Moon Restaurant and Jazz Club in St Croix.
They moved to Southwest Florida to retire, but that didn't last long, and thank goodness, because we in the Cape are fortunate that they've created another fabulous restaurant.
I love trying tasty dishes, a romantic setting, and jazz music ........ Slates delivers all 3 and more.
You have several choices for seating ....... you can sit outside at either one of 2 terraces, or inside in the bar section or dining room.
Wherever you sit, you're in for a treat! I got a table in the main dining room by the window on a banquet with comfy cushions and pillows.
The menu features New Orleans favorites such as Etouffee, Gumbo, Muffulettas, and Po' Boys ......... along with salads, sandwiches, burgers, and seafood and meat entrees with a cajun spin.
The bar has specialty beers, wines, sangrias, and cocktails such as the Hurricane, a Brandy Milk Punch, Pimm's Cup, and more.
My waitress was friendly, knowledgeable, and her service was impeccable. I was started with a warm crusty roll in clay flower pot ........ mmmm, very good.
For appetizers, I knew right away that I wanted to try their Corn and Crab Beignets.
You get 4 delicious and slightly spicy fritters on a bed of lettuce with a slice of lemon. They weren't heavy or greasy, and all flavors melded together beautifully!
I had a hard deciding what to order for dinner ...... I usually get seafood and was considering their Pan Seared Scallops with Ancho Glaze or Red Snapper with Crawfish Cream Sauce specials.
In the end, I got the Short Ribs with Carrots and Fried Country Cheese Grits Cake and it was all amazing!
The ribs were full of flavor and the grits were the perfect accompaniment with a crunchy crust covered in buttery crumbs. I'll just have to go back again to try their seafood.
For dessert, the Chocolate Chip Croissant Bread Pudding had my name all over it. Wow, it was so yummy and light and fluffy ........ it melted in my mouth and melted away any stress from the work week. You've got to try it!
After dinner, everyone gets a sweet treat, their own mini flower pot with M&M's in it.
You don't have to go all the way to New Orleans Cajun restaurants for great Cajun food! Just go to Slates, they are open Tuesday - Saturday, they serve lunch from 11AM-2PM, and dinner from 5-9PM. Reservations are strongly suggested.
