One of my favorite things about living in Southwest Florida is all the wonderful beach vacations I can take by driving less than an hour to my destination.
I can get to the Pink Shell in 30-40 minutes yet feel like I'm thousands of miles away from stress, work, and life's problems.
And, it's about the same amount of time, or even less, if you're coming from the airport. The resort is located on the northern tip of the island, at what I call "the quiet end of the beach".
You can choose studios or one and two-bedroom suites from one of three buildings, all with views of the water.
As a matter of fact, the resort's motto is, "the only thing we overlook is the beach!"
The resort started out as cottages back in the 1950's, and through several changes in ownership, has developed into one of the best Fort Myers resorts.
We got my parents a stay at the Pink Shell Resort's honeymoon suite for their birthdays and wow! ........... I was super impressed with everything.
First of all, the view is to die for, especially since it faces west for spectacular sunsets.
Then, the room had a comfortable bedroom, plus living and dining with lanai facing the view, a well-supplied kitchen, spacious bathroom, and even a private balcony with hot tub.
The resort boasts 2 restaurants: the casual Bongo's with pool-front dining and tiki bar ...... and Jack's, featuring fine dining and brunch with a view of the beach.
I've eaten at both places several times and the food has been excellent each time.
Of course I'm a bit prejudiced ....... my older daughter's boyfriend is executive sous chef!
The pool is so cool ....... with splashers and an octopus sculpture wrapped around a stone bridge.
From the pool is easy access to the beach with it's white-sugar sand and blue-green waters is just beyond the pool, and you can rent lounge chairs, umbrellas, and other beach paraphanelia.
Sign up for sailing school ........ and rent waverunners, kayaks, boats, bikes, or go parasailing.
Relax even more with a massage from their Aquagene Spa, or work out in the fitness room.
Come by boat and dock at the marina located across the street on the bay side of the resort ....... or go on a dolphin or sunset cruise.
Pets are not allowed on the property but there is pet boarding close by. Pink Shell is proud to be the first Green Lodging hotel on Ft Myers Beach and actively participates in recycling and other environmentally-friendly practices.
Parents can drop their kids off at the resort's Kidds Kampp for potty-trained children 4-12 years old.
The Pink Shell is the perfect spot for meetings, reunions, and parties, as well as a beach wedding ceremony and reception you'll always cherish!
