Gator Bites, Issue #070 - Off to Venice Beach September 27, 2019 |
Hi Off to Venice BeachMy Florida adventures continue!
Venice Beach is known for as a good place to find shark teeth. We went, armed and dangerous, with our tools for sifting sand. Apparently, it's best to scoop and sift through sand in the water right at the shoreline where the tide washes up a shelf. We ended up finding 6 teeth ... along with some neat shells! As you can see, the beach is made of a coarse grey sand. There are several parking areas, the furthest lot has bathrooms but tends to be more crowded. The dog beach section is near Sharky's Beach Restaurant and the municipal airport. We set up our umbrella and beach blanket quite near where airplanes (small ones) were constantly landing over the beach. It was kind of cool to watch them.
We walked the pier and had a sunset dinner at Sharky's after our beach day. Only half the pier is open at this point, you can still see the damage done by Hurricane Irma in 2017. Sharky's is huge .... with multiple indoor and outdoor dining sections. We chose outdoor, and enjoyed live music with a delicious meal of fish tacos and sliders.
Every year I need to have lobster at least once. Although I'd eaten at Lobster Lady several times, I'd never had their Lobster Roll. And, it had been awhile since I'd been .... they've added a new dining section with more tables and booths. It was superb! I had hot with drawn butter. I can't wait to go back for a cold one. I Loved the potato salad topped with micro greens and cole slaw. you can eat the orchid flower garnishing the dish! My next newsletter will come out in December. :) Happy fall!
