Gator Bites, Issue #069 - More Dining Ideas June 28, 2019 |
Hi Punta Gorda Dining and MoreHappy Summer! We've had an unusually hot spring even for Florida. This week, dust from the Saharan Desert has been blowing over the state and preventing our typical afternoon cooling summer rains. However, we've still been enjoying the pool and beach .... and we haven't had any brown murky water from the Caloosahatchee River like we did last summer. In this issue I feature more dining ideas. :D
Want same-day locally-caught seafood? Then, you've gotta try Peace River Seafood up in Punta Gorda. The restaurant is located a few miles east of I-75 in an old cracker cabin with cozy indoor seating and outdoor dining on the front porch. Try fresh blue crab, shrimp, oysters, or scallops ..... or try them all at once in seafood stew to die for, see the above photo! We tried the less spicy stew, but they also serve a spicy jambalaya, along with various and changing seafood dishes. You will love this authentic Florida experience! They are open Tuesday - Sunday from 11:00AM-7:30PM. They stop serving crab at 7:00. There may be a problem with flies when dining outside.
After dinner, we went to Fishermen's Village for a Key Lime Pie and sunset on the water. Although we enjoyed our pie, our most favorite Key Lime Pie is somewhere that you wouldn't expect ..... The Clam Bake in Fort Myers in 41, south of Gladiolus. It is bursting with a perfect blend of tart and sweet flavor. they have good New England style seafood too .... save money by going for their Early Bird Specials before 6:00PM. I know it's hot out, but we loved the clam chowder with a biscuit baked right on top, served at The Waterfront in St James City on Pine Island. We like sitting outside on the back deck, located near the end of a canal that leads out to Pine Island Sound with views of Sanibel in the distance. My next newsletter will come out in September. :) Enjoy your summer!
