Hi Summer Fun Continues!Hi! I had so much fun this summer having my 4 granddaughters around ..... lots of pool time and some beach time as well. One thing that I did was go out to Captiva, I hadn't been out to the island in over 2 years. Several of the restaurants made changes or switched around their locations. The gift shop at The Bubble Room is now an ice cream shop. The Beach Toys Shop on Captiva Drive has expanded so Sunshine Seafood Cafe moved next door to RC Otters in the building that Latte Da was in. Latte Da is now in the Captiva Inn Building. Both are in locations on Andy Rosse Lane next to RC Otters. By the way, RC Otters makes some delicious Crab Cakes with a mango dipping Sauce that you might just want to try the next time you head over to the island!
In this issue I feature several restaurants in the Fort Myers area.
We took a family vacation on Fort Myers Beach in July. One morning, we went to Little Palm for breakfast to try out their vegan dishes. I had their amazing Berry Waffles! They also have acai bowls, avocado toast, bagels, salads, sandwiches, and more, including gluten-free options.
Recently, my Dad and I were in the mood for pizza. He had been to Pizza Fusion before and had really enjoyed their flat breads, but I'd never been. I was game, as long as they had a margarita-style pizza. Which they do, a Margarita Bruschetta pie that was very good. The crust was almost cracker thin and very crispy, just the way I like it. The middle of the pie was a little soupy, but that didn't bother me one bit! The perfect blend of cheese, tomatoes, and basil was still a delight. I tried my Dad's Carnivore Pizza with pepperoni, sausage, meatballs, and bacon ..... yeah, I think I'll get that next time. :) Pizza Fusion's aim is to save the world one pizza at a time by offering health-minded pizzas with vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options.
We like to go to German restaurants periodically because we enjoy Austrian and German cuisine after having lived in Austria back when I was In high school. My sister was visiting and we decided to try HJ German Corner for the first time. I had the Schnitzel, which was excellent, along with potato pancakes, my absolute favorite! But, my sister and her family had been wanting Pork Hock with all the fixings ..... you need to order it 2 days in advance. They each ordered one even though an order is enough for 2 people, but I would say it's more like 3-4 people, easily. We were eating leftovers for days! It was super-flavorful and served with a big platter of potato dumplings, red cabbage, and sauerkraut.
