Dock Dogs
Suncoast Dock Dogs is a dock jumping competition for dogs, watch them fly, swim, jump, and splash!
The competition takes place at The Shell Factory in North Ft Myers, or sometimes in Cape Coral at the Cardboard Boat Regatta in April.
All dogs who like the water, big or small, are welcome to join in the fun.
There are 3 types of events that go from Friday - Sunday:
Big Air/Big Wave - Is a broad jump where dogs jump from a 40-ft dock into a pool to retrieve a floatable toy. Distance is measured from the dock to where the base of the tail hits the water.
Extreme Vertical - Is a high jump from the dock where dog must hit a bumper that is hung over the water and knock it down.
Speed Retrieve - Is a race where dogs must run, jump, and swim to retrieve an object located at the end of the pool.
Each day of the competition starts out with registration and practice runs, followed by the events.
Finals conclude on Sunday.
Check out this video of a dog at the Big Wave competition who really knows how to work the crowd:
As I mentioned before, Dockdogs sometimes has a competition at the same time and place as the Cardboard Boat Regatta, a race with boats made out of cardboard, which is such a blast!
You can get food, shop for crafts, and watch the boat races, which are pretty hysterical, while enjoying the dog sports.
